The first time a child wasn't scared

A four year old just roasted the entire concept of "scary dentist" and I have receipts.
She walked in gripping her mother's hand like it was the only solid thing in the room. Four years old, eyes already welling up before she even sat in the chair.
We didn't rush her. No lectures about being brave. Just five minutes of showing her the "tooth counting machine" (also known as a mirror), letting her hold it, letting her decide when she was ready.
And then it happened. She opened her mouth on her own. No tears. No death grip on mom's hand. Just a kid, curious instead of scared, watching everything in a little handheld mirror like it was the most fascinating thing in the world.
When we finished, she looked up and said, "That's it?" Followed by, "Can I come again?"
That's the whole job, right there. Not just fixing teeth. Rewriting the story a child tells themselves about what a dentist visit feels like. She'll carry that memory instead of the fear most of us grew up with.
Small win. Massive win.
